the name scout was a family decision…
decided by nikki’s twin daughters (evi & elsa) after consulting a trusty thesaurus and searching under “search and gather”. “scouting” came up and we loved the name and the reference to our favorite book, to kill a mockingbird. it fit who we are perfectly - we’re always scouting the planet, near and far, for unique items that are perfectly suited for gift giving and self giving. our mission is simply to:
1) OFFER a curated selection of beautiful, quality items that come from companies that care. We work with companies that create products made by individuals getting a fair wage, companies that use natural ingredients, companies that give back to communities, and companies that are committed to ethical practices in all aspects of their creative process. We do the research so you can feel good about the items you take home with you (or give to others as gifts). We believe products are not just a reflection of taste and style, but they represent stories, memories, and communities.
2) PROVIDE exceptional and personalized service, whether you shop with us in person or online. We hope you find our physical shop to be a casual and welcoming environment, a place to explore on-trend brands, classic brands, personal care and household goods, as well as beautiful gift options for all (including yourself!). Our exceptional service commitment includes free luxury gift wrap, customized gift narratives, and private appointment options.
3.) CHEESE! growing up in cedar rapids, nikki’s grandmother often took her to stores that had candy counters...but cheese was always her preference. Why not feature a cheese counter in a gift store instead? stop for a gift, sample some amazing cheese. done and done!
